Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports expected to reach USD7 billion this year

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are expected to reach around USD 6.5-7 billion this year.

The country earned USD749.7 million from fruit and vegetable exports in the first two months of this year.

Ngo Tuong Vi, General Director of Chanh Thu Fruit Export-Import Company, mentioned that her firm lacked sufficient durian products for export. However, fruits such as grapefruits, mangoes, and star apples have been successfully exported.

Nguyen Huy Hoang Phat, chairman of Hoang Phat Fruits Ltd. Co., noted that the company had seen a 10-15 percent rise in fruit exports to Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association, expects the country to witness an on-year increase of 15-20 percent in the value of fruit and vegetable exports this year, with durian exports alone accounting for USD 3.5 billion.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien stated that medicinal herbs, coconuts, frozen fruits, and watermelons would be exported to China through official channels in the coming time.
