Phan Thiet Airport model
543 hectares have been cleared and the project's feasibility study report has also been adjusted. The project plays an important role in the plan to make Mui Ne one of the top destinations in the Asia-Pacific in 2025-2030 period. Last year, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved the proposal to double the project's investment from VND5trn to VND10trn, making Phan Thiet Airport one of three largest airports in the central region.
The authorities are also speeding up the construction of Dau Giay-Phan Thiet expressway to improve infrastructure.
Statistics from Commercial Real Estate Services show that after news about the airport was confirmed, Phan Thiet's real estate market experienced a boom with land and house prices around Mui Ne up by 15-20% compared to before Tet. Land prices on Nguyen Thong Street increased from VND15m-18m (USD646-775) per square metre to VND20m-23m.
A square metre at Ocean Dunes project in Phan Thiet City's centre now costs up to VND50m (USD2,100).
Thanh Cung, an investor from Hanoi, said he bought two villas with an ocean view at the Goldsand Hill Villa project for about VND10bn. He said during 2016-2018 period, he only paid attention to Nha Trang and Danang markets. However, infrastructure projects and still cheap land prices have attracted him to Phan Thiet.
Many firms also started investing in the real estate market in Phan Thiet such as Hung Loc Phat, FLC Group, Hung Thinh and TMS Group.
It is hoped that the airport will attract more tourists to Phan Thiet and Mui Ne and make it as popular a destination as Danang and Nha Trang.
