Under the plan, the airport is expected to handle around 13 million passengers and 250,000 tonnes of cargo per year by 2030, using airplanes B747, B777, B787 and A350 and equivalent planes.

By 2050, the airport’s annual capacity would reach 18 million passengers and 500,000 tonnes of cargo.
The existing runway will be maintained until 2030 and another runway which is 2,400 metres long will be built by 2050.
The existing apron will be expanded to serve 30 aircrafts by 2030 and the figure would be 40 by 2050.
A 1.8-hectare new air traffic control tower will also be built by 2025.
The airport's administrative office area is planned to cover 2.2 hectares.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will coordinate with the Haiphong City People’s Committee and concerned agencies to implement the plan.
