An exhausted six-year-old boy was found around midday on Wednesday, five days after he went missing in a forest in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai's Van Lam District.

A six-year-old boy was found on August 21 after five days missing at a forest in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.

The boy, Dang Tien Lam, was found at 11.30 on August 21 by a local man, Ly Van Nang, who was having lunch with some family members at a tent near his farm in Lang Thip Commune.

"We heard a child crying in a weak voice," the 52-year-old man told the police. "We went to look around and found the boy who was exhausted. He was so weak that he could not stand up. He just said he was hungry and thirsty."

The man took the boy to his tent, gave him some cakes and milk, and called the local authorities to inform them.

The boy's parents came with local authorities who rushed him to a local healthcare centre. He is now in stable health.

According to Pham Duy Thinh, Head of the Van Yen District Police Department, the boy was found some six kilometres from where he went missing.

"He joined nine other children to look for wild fruits at a local forest on August 17," Thinh said. "He then went missing, and we mobilised over 200 people to look for him over the past five days."

The police official said they had looked at security cameras and dried up several ponds and streams in the area but had not found him.
