Forged tickets difficult to detect
Saigon Railway Station, along with the District 3 Police Department, have found and seized 55 fake train tickets during the wind up to the busiest travelling season for of Tet.
According to Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Head of Saigon Railway Station, all the tickets were for trips to central and northern regions.
The problem first became apparent when one passenger tried to return his ticket at the train station because his schedule did not suit the travel date. When staff checked the serial number of his ticket, they realised that it was a fake.
Station employees said that the only way to detect a fake ticket is to check the bar code or the serial number.
After this incident, police found and seized 55 more fraudulent tickets, along with a USB that contained 100 templates to forge tickets for different train stations. Two arrests have been made so far.
Thanh warned against buying tickets from agents outside of the train stations to avoid being overcharged or cheated.
Saigon Railway Station will establish 8 inspection teams, starting January 14, to check tickets. Any tickets that do not include the name of the passenger will be confiscated.
This year, Tet, a time when many people take trips to see their family, will fall on January 23.
