Coach Hoang Anh Tuan resigns after U18 defeat to Cambodia

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan has resigned after the U18 team lost against Cambodia in the quarter-finals of the AFF U18 Next Media Cup 2019.

Vietnam lost 2-1 to Cambodia

Vietnam lost the chance to advance into the semi-finals after losing 2-1 to Cambodia. Many fans expressed their disappointment and blamed coach Hoang Anh Tuan for the poor performance of the team. The players appeared to be unfit, lacked tactics and showed lacklustre finishing.

Many people have questioned whether Tuan showed favouritism towards players from Song Lam Nghe An and Viettel clubs. There are six from Viettel and six from Song Lam Nghe An. Moreover, for three consecutive years, Tuan has been unable to guide the U18 Vietnam team to get past the group stage of the U18 Southeast Asian Championship.

On August 15, Tuan announced that he had resigned and would not lead U19 Vietnam team in the U19 AFC Championship which will be held on November 2.

A representative of Vietnam Football Federation said that they appreciated Tuan's contribution in the past years and accepted his resignation.
