>> ‘Charity bridge’ needed to realise children’s dreams of schooling

>> Crossing the river by cable could be deadly

The children of Kon Tum's dreams of schooling will finally be realised as construction of a new bridge crossing the Po Ko River is to begin on June 27.

Lieutenant General Le Khoa (center left) and Pham Huy Hoan, Editor in Chief of DTiNews (center right), sign an agreement on the campaign to mobilise funding for the bridge's construction.
Local residents will no longer have to cross the river like this

As of June 18, DTiNews and the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education received an astounding amount of contributions to help build a bridge so students and locals could safely cross the Po Ko River. A total sum of VND 935,396,000 (USD 49,000) from kind-hearted individuals and organisations, both domestic and international, eagerly participated with donations to help build the Khuyen Hoc & Dan Tri Bridge. It is estimated that an additional amount of VND 133,604,000 is still needed.

Bachkhoa-Aptech and Bachkhoa-Npower International IT Training System were the first organisation and Nguyen Van Tuan of Hoang Hoa Tham, Hanoi, the first individual to make a donation. Two entrepreneurs, Le Van Kiem and Dao Hong Tuyen, each generously donated VND 300 million (USD 15,500). Many of Dan Tri/DTiNews' reporters and editors deducted from their salaries to contribute towards the bridge as well.

On behalf of the people who live along Po Ko River, DTiNews, and the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, all would like to send our deepest gratitude to the individuals and organisations for their concern and contributions towards this special project.

DTiNews hopes that we will continue to have your trust and support in the future.

Earlier on, The Vietnam Association for Promoting Education together with DanTri/DTiNews and its readers have decided to aid the Kon Tum Province Association for Promoting Education in building a new bridge worth VND 1 billion (USD 52,000). This will be the second Dan Tri Bridge, the first having recently been completed in Kien Giang Province.

On June 9, Dan Tri/DTiNews and the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education received an official letter of request from Ka Ba To, Chairman of the Kon Tum Province Association for Promoting Education, seeking assistance to the province in building a bridge for children living by the Po Ko River. In the letter, Chairman To expressed his hope that this special act of charity will be encouraged and supported by many individuals and readers of Dan Tri/DTiNews as well as larger organisations around the country.

"The monsoon season is approaching. It's also that time of the year when students prepare to start a new school year. We hope a bridge across Po Ko River can be built quickly, so that children and locals living in Dak Ang Commune, Ngoc Hoi District will be able to commute easily. The estimated cost for the bridge is VND 1 billion," wrote Ka Ba To.

Upon receiving the request, Lieutenant General Le Khoa, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, and Pham Huy Hoan, Editor in Chief of DTiNews, signed an agreement launching a campaign that aims to gather funding for the construction of the second bridge, which will be dubbed the "Khuyen Hoc & Dan Tri" bridge. The collected funds will be transferred to the Kon Tum Province Association for Promoting Education as soon as enough money has been raised.

Ka Ba To expressed that he hopes the bridge will be constructed and completed during the National Congress of Study Promotion and before Vietnam's Study Promotion Day on October 2.
