Dan Tri has transferred over VND307 million (USD14,600) in reader donations to support a poor widow and her three children after her husband died.
Hanh receives donation
Nguyen Viet Thuy was in the last stage of rectal cancer and was bedridden. Thuy's oldest child is in seventh grade, while the youngest is just two years old. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Thuy's wife, could not find proper work because she had to take care of Thuy and the children. Doctors said they could not do anything else for Thuy.
Thuy died on the first day of lunar new year
Hanh had borrowed nearly VND200m for Thuy's hospital treatment. After their story was published, she was able to repay VND60m thanks to help from the public. Thuy had still expressed worries over their debts and his children’s future before he died on the first day of the lunar new year.
Donations are still coming in to help the family pay their debts and to ensure the children's education.
"I couldn’t imagine it would be possible to escape our debts. I want to express gratitude to everyone that helped us," Hanh cried after receiving VND307,380,000 donation.
