Nhan Ai’s Parents Group supports children in Kien Giang Province

A charity team set up by donors and DTiNews’ readers has just come to Kien Giang to help poor local residents, including children.

A charity team set up by Nhan Ai’s Parents Group, an organisation of donors and DTiNews’ readers, has recently come to the southern province of Kien Giang to help poor local residents, including children.

Travelling 250 kilometres, the team departed HCM City to Vinh Tuy Commune, Go Quao District, to provide free medical check-ups and offer gifts for local people.

The 64-member team includes more than 20 doctors and nurses as well as volunteers  along with medicines and medical tools which went to Vinh Tuy Commune on the morning of August 31 in the heavy rain.

Local people were eager to see what the charity is all about. From the early morning, many flocked to the commune’s hall for medical check-ups.

The team members quickly arranged tables and chairs and medicines to start the check-up for 700 people.

After being given the medical check-ups, patients are, if necessary, prescribed  medicine. They also get gifts. Each child's gift includes a bag, clothes and notebooks. An adult is given a box of instant noodles and two boxes of sweetened condensed milk.

The examination found many children in Vinh Tuy Commune to be suddering from malnutrition, respiratory diseases and tooth decay. Meanwhile, adult problems include spinal disorders and diabetes.

The total expense for the charity activity is VND250 million, which came from donations raised by the Nhan Ai’s Parents Group.

The group was set up in late 2010 after the death of a 10-month-old girl who was abandoned by her mother at HCM City Pediatrics Hospital No. 2. She suffered from serious inborn diseases such as heart and brain problems and skin infection. She died two months after being taken to hospital.

Dan Tri/DTiNews’ articles about her situation moved millions of readers. Many of them combined to support the group which remembers the anniversary of her death every September 3.

Dan Tri/DTiNews’ editor-in-chief Pham Huy Hoan named her Nhan Ai.
