Hoang Thi Bao Ngoc and her siblings need support after their father dies
Five children in Ha Tinh Province are calling for help after their father died in a road accident and their mother became severely depressed.
Vo Thi Lan, 68, grandmother of the children, said her son Nguyen Quy, 40, recently died in a traffic accident. His wife, Hoang Thi Toan, 35, is suffering from severe postnatal depression following the birth of their fifth child.
Quy married Toan in 2016, and they had four children together: Nguyen Hoang Khanh Linh, 9, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, 8, Nguyen Hoang Trung Kien, 4, and Nguyen Hoang Chi Dat, 1. Toan also has a daughter from a previous marriage, Hoang Thi Bao Ngoc, 14.
Quy worked as a builder and did odd jobs to support the family. The household struggled financially due to low income and many children. After Toan gave birth to the fifth child, her health deteriorated because of severe depression.
Tragedy struck again on October 17 when Quy died in a road accident on his way to work. Since his death, Toan’s condition has worsened.
“Toan has lost awareness, often wanders away. The children are too young to care for themselves and rely entirely on me; we often do not have enough to eat,” Lan said tearfully.

“The funeral was supported by authorities and neighbours, but the children’s future is uncertain. We hope for support from kind-hearted people,” she added.
Le Thi Phuong Chi, Deputy Chairwoman of Tran Phu Ward, told Dantri/Dtinews that Quy’s family is classified as near-poor.
“Quy’s death leaves behind a sick wife and five children. Local authorities and neighbours have provided immediate support, but long-term help is needed so the children can continue schooling and Toan can receive treatment,” Chi said.
