Another beneficiary, Cao Thi Ngoc Thom, 40, lost her youngest daughter, aged 10, in the deluge on October 31 in Quang Trach Commune. Neighbours rescued a friend of the child but the girl was swept away and later found drowned after several hours. Thom had already lost two sons to drowning in earlier years.
Pham Thi Mai, 47, from Trung Thuan Commune, was also supported. Her husband was carried away by floodwaters in the early hours of October 31. Mai’s situation is worsened by a son recovering from a serious accident.
The delegation visits and gives the donation to Pham Thi Mai.
Each family received assistance of VND 5 million (about USD 208), drawn from public donations to help flood-affected residents in the central provinces.
Local official Duong Ngoc Tu, vice chairman of the Quang Trach commune People’s Committee, expressed sincere thanks to Dantri and its readers for the timely support.
Previously, Dantri used reader donations to deliver 1,000 relief packages worth VND 300 million (about USD 12,500) to flood victims in Hue and Danang cities. The newspaper also contributed VND 3 billion (about USD 125,000) to support people in Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak and Gia Lai provinces coping with flood damage.
