Dantri has inaugurated two houses constructed with donations from its readers for two elderly residents in Thai Nguyen Province.
Standing inside her new home of over 40-square-metres, 78-year-old Nguyen Thi Bo could not hide her emotion.

Floodwaters in October 2025 swept away all her belongings. Her ageing single-storey house collapsed under the force of the deluge, and she was only saved thanks to the swift intervention of neighbours.
Bo said that after the floods receded, local authorities, Dantri readers, benefactors and businesses provided timely support in food and essential supplies, helping her and her neighbours stabilise their lives and recover from the disaster.
In addition, she received financial assistance to rebuild a sturdy new home in time for 2026 Lunar New Year or Tet Festival. According to Bo, part of the funds donated by Dantri readers and other sources remained unused, which she has deposited in a savings account for future needs.
Nguyen Thi E, 64, faced a similar fate after the historic floods left her with nothing. Her single-storey house was also destroyed, forcing her to take temporary shelter with relatives.

She said she once believed her life was over, unable to start again in old age amid illness and hardship. Yet with a new, solid house now completed, and some funds remaining, she has also opened a savings account to provide for her later years.

Nguyen Van Hoan, E’s neighbour, said she had long been classified as a poor household, earning a meagre income by herding cattle to afford daily meals.
“Not only me, but many households in the village who lost their homes have received support from the state, Dantri/Dtinews readers, organisations and benefactors to rebuild,” Hoan said. “From thinking we had lost everything, people now have a new life. Everyone is truly overjoyed.”

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Truong, head of Phu Binh Commune Police in Thai Nguyen Province, said Dantri readers, benefactors and businesses had worked alongside local authorities to help revive residents’ lives after the historic floods.
