Dantri/Dtinews newspaper presented 500 health insurance cards to underprivileged students in Can Tho City on September 5, marking the start of the 2025–2026 school year.

At the opening ceremony of the 2025–2026 school year at Vinh Thanh High School in Vinh Thanh Commune, attendees included Tran Van Lau, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee, Pham Tuan Anh, Editor-in-Chief of Dtinews, Nguyen Phuc Tang, Deputy Director of the Can Tho Department of Education and Training, along with local leaders and teachers.

During the ceremony, Dtinews’ Editor-in-Chief Pham Tuan Anh presented 500 health insurance cards to disadvantaged students in the city, including 35 pupils from Vinh Thanh High School.

Pham Tuan Anh said this is the fourth year Dtinews has carried out the programme, adding that over 5,000 cards have been distributed nationwide to date.

“Today, to mark the new school year, Dtinews is giving 500 health insurance cards worth more than VND 315 million (USD 12,469) to disadvantaged students in Can Tho. Each card may not be of great monetary value, but it reflects the support of our readers and benefactors who wish to ease the burden on families,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to Dtinews' readers and donors for supporting the newspaper’s social welfare initiatives.

Do Thanh Thien, Principal of Vinh Thanh High School, thanked Dtinews and its readers for the meaningful gifts to his students.

Nguyen Phuc Tang of the Can Tho Education Department described the programme as highly meaningful, helping disadvantaged children gain access to healthcare, which supports their healthy and holistic development.

Student Ho Ngoc Cam Tien, a 12th grader, said: “My father was injured in a traffic accident and has difficulty walking, while my mother suffers from heart disease. This is the first time I have received a health insurance card from Dantri, and I am very happy. I promise to study hard and pass the university entrance exam to honour the support of my parents, teachers and Dantri readers.”

For the 2025–2026 school year, Dtinews aims to provide 1,000 health insurance cards to disadvantaged students. However, after the programme was launched, readers and donors nationwide contributed over VND 1.1 billion (USD 43,700). With this funding, Dtinews plans to distribute more than 1,600 health insurance cards and award additional scholarships to students in need.
