Nhon Mai was among the hardest-hit areas in the historic floods that swept through the region on July 22. According to local authorities, 276 houses were affected, including 69 that were washed away, 20 severely damaged, and 142 households forced to evacuate urgently.

The commune also reported one fatality caused by a landslide. Estimated damages in Nhon Mai exceed VND 750 billion (approximately USD 29.5 million).

National Route 16, the only road leading into Nhon Mai, suffered severe destruction from the flooding. Dozens of landslides and several collapsed sections have rendered the route impassable.

As of the afternoon of July 26, over 1,400 households in 21 villages of the border commune remained completely isolated.

Phan Tuan Anh, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/Dtinews, authorised an emergency relief fund of VND 320 million (approximately USD 12,600) from the newspaper’s Humanitarian Programme to support the 63 displaced households and one bereaved family.
