Dantri/Dtinews breaks ground on three charity homes in Tay Ninh

Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, in coordination with authorities in Tay Ninh Province, broke ground on January 29 to build three charity homes for residents facing extreme hardship.

The three houses have a combined construction cost of more than VND 270 million (USD 10,390), funded by donations from Dantri readers in Vietnam and overseas after the beneficiaries’ circumstances were reported by the newspaper. Of the total, Ha Ngoc Son, head of the Bac Trung Nam Club, contributed VND 60 million.

The beneficiaries are Do Cao Thang, who received VND 88.36 million in donations; Vo Khac Phong, supported with VND 81.09 million; and Tong Thi Oi, who received VND 104.2 million. All three live alone, face severe financial difficulties and were residing in homes that had seriously deteriorated, with no means to repair or rebuild them.

Receiving the support, Thang said he was deeply moved. “I sincerely thank Dantri and the benefactors. Without this collective help, I do not know when I would have been able to rebuild my dilapidated home, especially as I grow older and my health declines,” he said.

Phong said his poor health meant his monthly income was barely enough to buy rice. The more than VND 80 million donated to build a new house was, he said, an amount he could never have managed on his own.

“I am very grateful that Dantri readers have helped poor households like us. I sincerely thank Dantri and all the benefactors,” he said.

Do The Ngan, vice-chairman of Thuan My Commune People’s Committee, expressed his gratitude to Dantri and donors at home and abroad for supporting housing construction for disadvantaged residents.

In response to the government’s campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing, Dantri has set a target of building 200 homes for poor and near-poor households nationwide during 2024-2025. Since April 2024, the newspaper has broken ground on 253 homes, of which 213 have been completed.
