A family in Thanh Hoa Province already plagued by ill-health has been dealt a last blow as the crops on which they rely for survival have failed.

The five-member family in Hong Phong Village, Trieu Duong Commune, rely on two small rice fields, but their crop has failed.
Le Thi Tuyen said, "My husband often went far from home to assemble metal rooftops for others' houses and I work in the fields. I'd be fine despite the poverty because our family was happy and everyone was healthy. But then misfortune just came after misfortune."
In 2012, Tuyen's husband fell during work and broke his collar bones. He returned to work after recovering the next year, but fell again and broke his right heel. In 2014, he went through kidney stone surgery and could not work for two months.
"My husband's health is weak now and he can't do hard work anymore," Tuyen said. "I borrowed money to bring him to hospital. I don't know what to do now."

Their eldest child has hepatitis B and their second child has severe hemorrhoids.
Two years ago, the youngest child, Le Thi Anh Thu, who is in first grade, was diagnosed with leukemia and was transferred from Thanh Hoa Pediatric Hospital to National Pediatrics Hospital and then to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
Thu's mother had to use the house as collateral for loans. She also has hepatitis B.
Dinh Thi Kim Lien, a doctor at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion said, "Thu is going through the second chemotherapy session. Her treatment process will be very long and difficult."
