A poor couple in the northern province of Quang Ninh is calling for community help to save their children who are both suffering from dangerous diseases.

Mr. Thuong and Mrs. Ngat have two sons. Unluckily, Vu Duc Thinh, five years old, has to struggle with congenital bone metabolism deficiency, causing his growth to be stunted and his limbs distorted. His teeth have broken and his belly is swollen.
He was taken to some hospitals in Hanoi for treatment, but doctors said they have sent his clinical record abroad to look for help elsewhere.
The little boy does not understand his disease at all and often asks his mother, “Mum, why I can’t I grow bigger and taller like my friends”. Ngat wishes she could do something to save her son.
Then, the couple suffered another blow when their oldest son Vu Duy Hung, six years- old, was diagnosed with blood cancer a year ago. Now, he is staying at The National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi.

This disease makes Hung very skinny and very weak. He always asks his father when he can join the first grade, but the answer is just the powerless gaze of the parent. The boy is very keen on going to school, thus, he learns to write when being given blood transfusions. Thuong usually thinks of this scene while he is sleeping. He questions himself, “He and his wife did not do anything wrong, so why should their children have to suffer this way.”
The couple have only 720 square meters of land so Thuong comes to the forest to clear farming land to earn money, or work as a construction worker, but he can’t improve the family’s financial situation when both of his sons have dangerous diseases.
The mother has had to take the second son, who has just finished the treatment at the National Hospital of Pediatrics, to the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion because no one else can take care of him. The father has been trying to borrow money to get extra treatment for his eldest son.

Hiding Thinh in the room where Hung is being treated, the mother is always afraid of being detected by doctors.
Being in such a needy situation, Thuong said to his wife, “If I can’t borrow money, I may crash into a car so that we can receive compensation of VND30 million (USD1,428) to provide the treatment for our sons.”
She cannot hold back her tears when hearing this from her husband. Seeing his mother cry, Thinh said, “Mum, please treat Hung first-- I don’t need to go to hospital any more.” She feels like this is a knife cutting straight into her heart.
