Burn accident leaves family in shambles

DTiNews reports on the heartbreaking story of a 3 year old boy falling into boiling water and suffering from 2nd degree and 3rd degree burns on his face, neck, body and limbs.

We went to the National Burn Hospital to visit a boy named Le Dai Loi (Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh province). On January 21, he suffered horrifying burns when his father, Le Thanh Hoa was driving a motorbike and lost control, crashing into a boiling water steamer on the pavement which caused little Loi to fall into the steamer. Loi has been undergoing treatment and being observed by doctors in the hospital. He is in serious condition and constant pain.

Loi’s mother, Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen, cannot even touch him due to severe scalding all over his fragile body. She was devastated and broken to tears as she helplessly watched her son lying on a hospital bed being covered with bandages. She could do nothing to help him.

Loi cried in agony and screamed for his mother which broke her heart to hear. Her son now sleeps and eats very little as his body is still in horrible pain.

It's easy to notice the hot temperature, about 30 degrees Celsius in the room, even though the weather is quite cold outside. This temperature is more ideal to help heal Loi’s scalded skin.

Tuyen said that doctors needed to apply anesthesia before changing his dressing everyday.

Doctor Tran Dinh Hung referred to this as a very severe case with a total body surface area of 60% being burned and half of those burns being 3rd degree .

Loi is in need of kindhearted support to ensure his recovery

Tuyen told us through her tears that, “My husband is a driver; we do not earn much money. I don’t know whether my son can survive or not and I am now seriously worried as we cannot afford expenses on this treatment to help my son”.
