A 15-year-old boy from a poor family in Quang Binh Province is living with brain tumour that has made him blind and forced him to quit school.
Wishing to see again to continue studies
Tran Van Luong is the only son of a ill woman in Hamlet 1, of Vinh Ninh Commune, and she has never been married.
Luong’s mother, Tran Thi Nguyet, 49, was also born to a poor family with four children.
Her father died when she was only nine years old, leaving her with her mother after her brothers and sisters all got married.
Due to her regular illness, Nguyet did not get married but did become pregnant with Luong.
Ten years ago, Nguyet’s mother died, leaving her only with her son.
After 20 years of saving, Nguyet managed to build a small house on abandoned land conceded to her by her older brother.
Despite his condition, Luong was always a good student.
Bad luck struck their family a few years ago when Luong became blind after consecutive headaches, forcing his mother to sell their house for VND20 million (USD946.29) to pay for treatment.
After medical evaluations, she finally was told by hospitals HCM City that Luong had a tumour in his brain which is a major cause of his blindness.
Nguyet earns modest income from farming
Currently, Luong and his mother are staying with the family of a relative. The mother also has a tumour, but cannot afford to treat it.
Now they are living on modest income from farming.
Boy wants to work to support his mother
“I wish I could see again, even though by one eye, so I could work to earn money to support my mother,” the boy said.
