American surgeon, Dr. Mckay McKinnon, who successfully removed a 90-kilo tumor from the leg of a young man from Da Lat, has returned to Vietnam to help remove the tumours of 12 more patients.

DETECH GROUP’S charity fund and Karamalz Vietnam have decided to fund Dr. McKinnon’s trip in a bid to help provide emergency surgeries for such poor patients. He will also provide training for Vietnamese doctors.
This is the first time that a Vietnamese firm has financed Dr. McKinnon’s charity operations.
He will work at Vinmec and Vietnam-Germany Hospitals in Hanoi from July 22 to 26, and at FV, Cho Ray, and Pediatrics Hospital 2 in HCM City from July 29 to August 2.
Among 12 patients, McKinnon will initially conduct surgeries for six cases including Le Trung Tuan, who has had a large tumour on his face for the past four years.
This is the third trip by the American doctor to Vietnam to conduct his mission. Early last year, Dr. McKinnon successfully removed a 90-kilo tumour from the leg of Nguyen Duy Hai. He also conducted surgeries for two other patients, namely Kieu Thi My Dung and Thach Thi Sa Ly.
His operations have not only greatly contributed to the world’s medical development but also helped save patients’ lives, and given hope to several other families who have members suffering from tumours of various kinds.
Dr. McKinnon, a professor who works at Chicago Medical University and at several other hospitals in the Chicago area, has not received payment for any of the surgeries he has conducted in Vietnam.
The charity programme has been jointly funded by Robin Austin, CEP of VinaCapital Foundation, DETECH’s charity fund, Australia’s VOVICARE organisation along with hospitals, doctors, and philanthropists.
