The Binh Duong Provincial Confederation of Labour said on January 19 that they had visited and presented gifts to local migrant workers who remained during the Tet holiday.

Vice chairman of the Provincial Confederation of Labour, Nguyen Dinh Khanh, said that about 450,000 migrant workers were staying.

"The workers are mostly families with small children from the central and northern localities," Khanh said. "Some others are from the neighbouring Mekong Delta provinces. They said they could not afford to return to their hometowns due to financial difficulties."

According to a report from the Binh Duong Provincial Confederation of Labour, there were over 300,000 workers who were laid off and faced long unemployment in 2022.

Local authorities have organised many activities to provide support for the workers using the provincial budget of VND300 billion. Thousands of free air and train tickets had been offered to those that faced economic difficulties and had not been able to return home for a long time. Those who stayed were given VND500,000 and some essential foods.
