Workers from South Korean strike over unreasonable work conditions

More than 200 workers at a South Korean-invested company in Ninh Binh Province went on strike for two days due to the firm’s unreasonable working conditions.

More than 200 workers at a South Korean-invested ADM21 Company, in Ninh Binh Province, went on strike for two days due to the firm’s unreasonable working conditions.

 Workers at ADM21 Company went on strike on October 14

According to the workers, the company does not allow them to take naps. Pregnant women are not allowed to take early maternal leave as stipulated by the Labour Code. Meanwhile, they face a very polluted working environment.

Despite sending petitions to the the company’s management board and trade union, they have not yet received any feedback. On the morning of October 14, the workers started going on strike to protest the working conditions.

A worker said, “We only ask for our rights, but have received no reply. Whileas, the company requested us to sign at a commitment, confirming that if we stop going on strike, we can only be permitted to continue working at the firm.”

Nguyen Truong Giang, Head of Yen Khanh District Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, “After receiving information that the strike was taking place, we set up a task force and worked with ADM21 Company’s directorate as well as the workers’ representative. The directorate explained the contents causing the workers’ outrage and pledged to ensure labourers’ rights. However, the management board resolutely bans the workers from lying during the nap.”

The workers said that if the company still fails to meeting their demands, they will go on strike again.

ADM21 Ltd. Co. specialises in producing automobile windshield wipers with 280 workers. Since 2012, four strikes have occurred at the company.
