Nguyen Thi Kieu, 51, from Thanh Hiep Village in Cang Long District has been the pillar of the family over the past 10 years.

Her husband Nguyen Van Dia, 55, faced a spinal fracture from a fall from a coconut tree, causing him to be paralysed ever since.
Kieu borrowed money from different sources to cover Dia’s treatment.
Every day, Dia struggles with painful ulcers on his legs.
Meanwhile, the couple’s eldest daughter, 27, has been living with Down’s Syndrome. She is almost entirely helpless.
Every month, the family receives a subsidy of VND1 million from the government as a poor household.
Le Thanh Dinh, vice chairman of Nhi Long Phu Commune, said that Kieu’s family was the poorest in the locality. Kieu does not have a source of stable income, and she must care for an ailing husband and daughter.
Local residents have built a new house for the family and Dinh hoped that donors could support them more.
