VNA television introduces family programme

The Vietnam News Agency Television Centre has recently launched a new programme entitled “For a happy family” to raise public awareness of domestic violence and prevention.

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Television Centre has recently launched a new programme entitled “For a happy family” to raise public awareness of domestic violence and prevention.

The programme, jointly produced by VNews Television Centre, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Family Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was being broadcast twice a month at 9.15pm on Monday, with the first episode shown on August 18.

Vice Director General of the VNA and Director of the VNA Television Centre, Nguyen Hoai Duong, said that domestic violence has not yet been addressed because of traditional customs, while Vietnamese people consider it a private issue and victims of domestic violence remain isolated.

Duong also pointed out shortcomings in dissemination and education of domestic violence issues and a lack of community involvement.

The 25-minute programme, which includes family news, reports and talks with experts, will convey ethical values and discuss lifestyle and family behaviour and measures to prevent domestic violence, he said.
