Vietnam's homegrown robot makes global debut

A video of a humanoid robot with the name VinMotion on its chest has gone viral, offering a first glimpse of Vietnam’s ambitions in advanced robotics.

The bipedal robot, which can walk and wave with flexible arms, was developed by VinMotion, a subsidiary of Vingroup. Chairman Nguyen Trung Quan said it marks not a one-off experiment, but the beginning of a long-term strategy to bring Made in Vietnam robotics to the global stage.

“Our humanoid robot is 100 per cent made in Vietnam, developed entirely in-house by the VinMotion engineering team—from hardware design to software,” he said.

Though only established a few months ago, the company has already produced five prototype versions, each fully developed by its engineers.

Vietnam may be a newcomer to the global robotics arena, but Vingroup’s backing signals serious intent.

Quan said the company’s rapid progress reflects the technical depth and experience of its leadership and staff. He also noted that humanoid robotics could transform productivity but may require a fundamental rethink of future labour markets.
