Overall, during the first ten months of 2025, Vietnam brought in 811,300 tonnes of meat and meat products, valued at USD 1.62 billion, a rise of 15.3 per cent in volume and 14.4 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.

Despite a 5.8 per cent drop in volume, the value of meat imports from India rose slightly by 0.8 per cent compared with January-October 2024. This means India supplied about 18.5 per cent of Vietnam’s meat imports over that span.

Imports from many other traditional suppliers, including Australia, South Korea, Germany, Iran and Japan, declined in the same period. However, customs data show increasing meat imports from markets such as Russia, the United States, Brazil, Canada, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Italy, France, Belgium and China.

In terms of product mix, poultry and poultry by-products remain the largest share (36.33 per cent), followed by frozen buffalo meat (16.95 per cent), fresh or frozen pork (19.66 per cent), by-products from pigs, buffalo and cattle (18.96 per cent), and beef (3.79 per cent).

Notably, imports of fresh or frozen pork surged, reaching 159,400 tonnes worth USD 358.26 million, nearly doubling from the same period in 2024 (up roughly 96 per cent in volume and 91 per cent in value), with an average import price around USD 2,240 per tonne.

Vietnam sourced frozen or chilled pork from 25 different markets, with Russia supplying over half of the total volume, followed by Brazil, Canada, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and other countries.

On the export side, Vietnam shipped 18,720 tonnes of meat and meat products abroad in the first ten months of 2025, worth USD 96.44 million, up 0.6 per cent in volume and 15.2 per cent in value year-on-year. The biggest destination was Hong Kong, which absorbed 44.94 per cent by volume and 60.55 per cent by value, receiving about 8,400 tonnes worth USD 58.4 million.
