Vietnam has continued to see a sharp fall in the number of Covid-19 infections with just over 11,000 cases confirmed on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 11,011 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 55 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,705), Danang (783), Hai Phong (496), Quang Nam (475), and Binh Dinh (444). There were 12 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 1,626 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 7,303 infections found in the community.
As of Tuesday evening, 2,279,719 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,047), Binh Duong (292,908), Hanoi (134,223), Dong Nai (99,910), and Tay Ninh (88.284). Vietnam has so far confirmed 185 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,286,750. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 1, an additional 39,608 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,062,058.
On Monday evening, a further 109 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,777. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (20), Vinh Long (8 ), Hau Giang (6), Kien Giang (6), and Tay Ninh (6).
Vietnam on January 31 administered 145,079 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 181.43 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.16 million people having received two doses.
