Vietnam records nine new imported Covid-19 patients on first New Year's Day

Nine Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from Germany, Russia, and Canada have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,474.

According to the ministry's report, three of the newly-infected patients returned from Russia at Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province on December 25.

They were sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in their second testing on December 31.

The patients are now being treated at the Khanh Hoa Provincial Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Earlier nine other people who boarded this flight were also infected with SARS-CoV-2.

The other five patients returned from Germany at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on December 30 and were sent to a quarantine area in Binh Duong Province upon arrival.

They are now being treated at the Binh Duong Provincial General Hospital.

The last patient returned from Canada at Tan Son Nhat Airport on December 29 and was sent to quarantine and treatment in Long An Province.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 780.

As of 6 pm on January 1, a total of 1,325 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 17,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
