From November 15 to 17, representatives of the Vietnam Embassy in Cambodia worked with local authorities to conduct initial interviews and verification of 110 Vietnamese citizens detained in two provinces, including 10 in Svay Rieng and 100 in Tbong Khmom. They were suspected of involvement in online crime and internet fraud activities.
Initial verification showed that the citizens are registered residents of 26 provinces and cities across Vietnam.
Authorities have requested relevant agencies in these 26 localities to coordinate with Tay Ninh Police and the Xa Mat international border guard station to receive their residents. They were also asked to investigate and strictly handle individuals and organisations involved in illegally sending people to Cambodia under the promise of “light work, high salary”, which in reality led them to work in online scam centres.
Further verification steps are being carried out by the authorities.
