According to Vietnam Railway Transport JSC (Traravico), the international rail freight route connecting Hebei, China, with Vietnam has delivered positive results after more than a year of operation.
Transit times have been cut from more than 20 days to around five to seven days, helping reduce logistics costs, improve supply-chain efficiency and create new opportunities for importers and exporters in both countries.
Traravico is working with domestic and international partners to further develop its international rail freight services with China, with a target of transporting around 1,500 containers a year.
Within Vietnam's national logistics system, rail transport plays an important role, particularly for large-volume, long-distance and container freight, as well as international intermodal transport.
Nationwide, the North-South railway serves as a major transport artery connecting industrial centres, seaports and key logistics hubs. These include Song Than, Trang Bom, Dieu Tri, Danang, Vinh, Giap Bat and Yen Vien railway stations.
Alongside its domestic network, Vietnam's railway system maintains international intermodal freight services with China through the Dong Dang and Lao Cai border gates.
These connections allow Vietnamese goods to reach markets in China, Central Asia and Europe, while linking domestic freight networks to major international logistics corridors.
A Traravico representative said international rail freight was gradually emerging as an important logistics corridor, connecting Vietnam with northern China while opening a route towards wider markets across Eurasia.
