Vietnam Plastics Association celebrates 35 years of growth and innovation

PR Article-The Vietnam Plastics Association (VPA) has celebrated its 35th anniversary at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel, marking a significant milestone for one of Vietnam’s most dynamic industries.

The event featured forward-looking discussions on how innovation, circular economy principles, and social responsibility will define the future of the plastics sector.

A short film titled 35 Years of Formation and Development of VPA highlighted the industry’s journey, from small-scale production in the 1990s to becoming a USD 32 billion sector exporting to nearly 190 countries.

In her keynote address, Huynh Thi My, Vice President and General Secretary of VPA, reviewed the association’s major milestones and urged enterprises to shift from quantity to quality, invest in eco-design, and embrace sustainable practices.

Professor Vu Minh Khuong from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, presented a strategic roadmap identifying digitalisation, automation, and public–private partnerships as key drivers of sustainable growth and global competitiveness.

A highlight of the event was a panel discussion titled Vietnam Plastics Industry in the Era of Rising, chaired by VPA Chairman Dinh Duc Thang. Experts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Economic Forum, Dow Group, and academia shared insights on innovation, recycling, and green transformation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Thang noted: “Vietnam is entering a new era with stricter environmental and trade requirements. This is both a challenge and a motivation for our industry to restructure, innovate, and strengthen recycling and eco-friendly material development.”

He added that the theme Aspiration to Rise will serve as the guiding compass for the sector’s sustainable transformation, stressing the need to enhance domestic petrochemical capacity and align circular growth with Vietnam’s long-term economic goals.

The celebration also honoured outstanding member enterprises (2020-2025) for achievements in innovation and sustainability. It featured the signing of an MoU between the Vietnam Plastics Association and the Vietnam Waste Recycling Association (2025-2028) to promote circular economy initiatives, develop standards for recycled materials, and support environmental certification for exports.

As the plastics industry enters a new phase, the VPA aims to serve as a bridge for knowledge, innovation, and collaboration, driving Vietnam’s plastics sector toward a greener and more competitive future.
