Vietnam Airlines cancels flights due to storm

Vietnam Airlines has cancelled four flights, and will cancel more flights today and tomorrow due to the impact of Typhoon Saola, which is churning near the East Sea.

Vietnam Airlines (VNA) has cancelled four flights, and will cancel more flights today and tomorrow due to the impact of Typhoon Saola, which is churning near the East Sea.

In light of adverse weather conditions caused by the storm, the national flag carrier yesterday cancelled four flights between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Taipei, Taiwan.

In addition, six more flights scheduled for August 1 and 2 from Vietnam to Taipei, and vice versa, may also be cancelled, VNA said.

Meanwhile, the status of flights between Vietnam and Taiwan’s Kaohsiung would be decided based on the latest weather developments, the carrier said.

A total of about 1,600 passengers who have or will have been affected by such cancellations will be arranged on other flights as soon as possible, likely starting tomorrow evening, weather permitting, the firm said.

VNA also said it would keep clients well informed about changes to its flight schedule.

According to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center, Typhoon Saola, which formed in the northwest area of the Pacific Ocean, is moving north-northwest at 5-10 kph towards East China and may land at the Chinese provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang on the evening of August 2.

With such an expected route, the storm is unlikely to enter the East Sea, the center reported.
