The project, which links the 300-km Hanoi-Ha Long Expressway with 264-km Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway, is 176 kilometres long.

The four-lane route allows vehicles to run at a maximum speed of 120 kilometres per hour.

The road has up to 32 bridges crossing rivers and the sea, including seven bridges along the Van Don-Tien Yen section and 25 on the Tien Yen-Mong Cai section. This part includes the 1,515-metre Van Tien Bridge, which is Quang Ninh’s largest sea-spanning bridge.

Toll booths on Van Don-Mong Cai Expressway will collect fees through an electronic collection system.

On August 31, the last work in the Mong Cai area was finished for it to enter operation on September 1.

With the expressway, travel time from Van Don to Mong Cai will be shortened to 50 minutes, down from the previous two hours.
