Authorities in the central city of Danang has brought a US tourist to a local quarantine area after she fled a hospital with alleged virus symptoms.
A quarantine area at 199 Hospital in Danang
According to director of Son Tra District's Healthcare Centre, Pham Hong Nam, the woman, Danielle Smith, aged 30, came to the centre for a health check-up on the morning of March 30.
"She had a fever and coughed and we decided to transfer her to the 199 Hospital," Nam said.
According to the 199 Hospital, they received the US patient at around 9 am. Initial check-ups found she had a fever and coughs. But she left while the hospital was preparing to send her to a quarantine area.
The hospital had informed the case to the Danang Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control which immediately sent police to search for the woman.
The woman was then found an hour after that while staying at a hotel in Son Tra District. She was brought to the hospital for quarantine following local government regulations on Covid-19 prevention.
A representative at the hospital said that the tourist has co-operated with the doctors following explanations about the regulations.
According to reports from local authorities, the US tourist arrived in Vietnam on February 13 from Taiwan. She earlier went to China on January 23.
