
According to Bamboo Airways, the incident occurred at 7.10 pm on May 2 at the security screening checkpoint for the Phu Quoc-Hanoi route where security screeners discovered a bag containing powder in the hand luggage of passenger Nguyen Xuan Dinh, 49, from the northern province of Lang Son, and two other bags containing the same powder and stones in hand luggage of Chinese passenger Nong BoShou, 50.
The airport’s X-ray screening machines sounded an alarm after explosives were apparently detected.
The two passengers failed to show any documents related to their bags of power.
They said that the powder were impurities derived from a stone grinding process. They bought the bags of powder from a jewellery store in HCM City and carried it to Phu Quoc four days ago.
Phu Quoc Airport’s security issued a report on the incident in the presence of representatives of Bamboo Airways, the Southern Airport Authority on the island, Duong To Ward Police the Military Command of Phu Quoc and handed the suspects over to the Duong To Ward Police.
The two men have been released while local authorities further investigate the case.
