Two Indian men and seven Vietnamese people who recently arrived in Vietnam have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of patients in the country to 2,668, the Ministry of Health reported on Thursday evening.

According to the ministry's report, seven Vietnamese new patients including four women and three men recently returned from Japan, Angola, and Ukraine to Danang City, and Quang Nam and Bac Giang provinces. They were sent to quarantine upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals
The two Indian men aged 46 and 23 recently arrived at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport and HCM City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport and both tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 7. They are now being treated at the Cu Chi Fields Hospital for Covid-19 patients in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,668, including 910 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.
As of 6 pm on April 8, a total of 2,429 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, nearly 37,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
