Two primary school children have died after drowning in a pond on a coffee farm in Quang Son Commune, Lam Dong Province, local authorities said.
The chairman of the Quang Son Commune People's Committee confirmed on August 6 that the fatal incident had occurred earlier that day.
According to preliminary information, at around 11.30 am, four children who had accompanied their families to a nearby coffee farm went to play beside a pond. Two of the children reportedly slipped and fell into the water.
The other two children ran to alert nearby adults. However, by the time family members reached the scene and pulled the victims from the pond, the children, aged six and nine, had died.
According to statistics from authorities in Lam Dong Province, the latest incident brings the number of child drowning deaths in the province to 29 in 2026. A total of 24 drowning incidents involving children have been recorded since the beginning of the year, with drowning accounting for around 90 per cent of all fatal childhood accidents and injuries in the province.
The latest tragedy follows another fatal drowning on July 31 in Quang Khe Commune, where five children were swimming in a natural pond in Phi Mur Village. Two children, aged seven and nine, lost their lives in that incident.
