Several local players had been competing in the tournament, including Tran Quyet Chien, world No.8, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, world No.18, Ma Minh Cam, world No.23, and Ngo Dinh Nai, world No.24. All of whom failed to win in their fifth qualifying round tie and were subsequently eliminated from the tournament.

Despite suffering a loss to Robinson Morales of Colombia, world No.27, Trung Hau still enjoyed two victories over some of the world’s leading players, including Cho Jae Ho of the Republic of Korea, world No.7, and Jeremy Bury of France, world No11, to be ranked in first position in Group G.

Hau is scheduled to face Tayfun Tasdemir of Turkey, world No.5, in the quarter finals of the competition.
