The Ministry of Transport has agreed to a Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC)’s proposal to expand the HCM City-Long Thanh Highway.

According to the VEC, once expanded, lanes on sections from Belt Road 2 to Belt Road 3 in HCM City and Belt Road 3 to Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Highway will be both raised to 10 from four at present. Work on these sections is scheduled to be finished in early 2026.

The Ministry of Transport said the HCM City-Long Thanh Expressway was put into operation in 2016 with four lanes. It has seen an annual vehicle growth of 10%, surpassing its design capacity. So it was necessary to expand HCM City-Long Thanh Expressway, particularly taking into account Long Thanh International Airport, which is slated to become operational by 2025.

The ministry has asked VEC to focus on completing the project investment procedures to submit them to concerned agencies for approval.
