Tonnes of Japanese Koi fish have been removed from a lotus pond in Hanoi following a request from the municipal authorities.

A company released eight tonnes of Koi fish into Dam Dong Lotus Pond in Tay Ho District’s Quang Ba Ward in June. The fish were brought from the northern province of Thai Binh.

However, only the lotus plantation is permitted to use the pond. Tay Ho District People’s Committee recently requested Quang An Ward to stop the Koi fish-breeding contract with the firm.

This morning, November 6, part of the fish were relocated from the pond to an area in Tay Ho District.

Since the Koi fish were released, Dam Dong Lotus Pond has attracted many visitors, but the entry to the Koi fish area is quite narrow and lacks fencing, posing dangers for visitors.
