Tens of tonnes of fish have been found at a lake in the southern province of Binh Phuoc.

The mass fish death occurred at Binh Ha 1 Lake in Bu Gia Map District.

According to the initial information, the fish were owned by Duong Van Cu, a local resident who hired the lake for fish breeding. Cu detected the first dead fish at around 8 pm on April 23. The next morning, more dead fish was detected.

“My family has raised the fish in this area for more than 13 years. However, this is the first time I have ever seen such a mass fish death. A total estimated amount of around 20 tonnes of fish have died with the majority where intended to be sold soon,” Cu added.

The mass fish death has caused Cu's family a big loss


Dead fish weighed up to 9 kilos. The incident has caused losses of around VND1.2 billion (USD54,545) for the family.

Local authorities also sent a taskforce to help Cu’s family to gather the dead fish. The cause of the incident is under the investigation.

The mass fish death has led to serious pollution of the lake.
