Flood water rises in Son La City on July 24

Since July 23, heavy rains and flash floods triggered by Storm Prapiroon have caused serious flooding and landslides in Son La's Mai Son District.

According to a report from Mai Son District People's Committee, three people in Chieng Noi Commune have died, and five others went missing in the floods as of 11 am on July 24.

Many houses along the Nam Pan Spring had been inundated as the flood water rose sharply on the spring on Tuesday night.

A resident, Trinh Thi Thanh Huong, said that her house was half flooded by 4 am on Tuesday.
"The flood water rose quickly in just about two hours," Huong said. "We didn't have time to move out any furniture."

Speaking with Dantri on Wednesday morning, a Son La Provincial People's Committee representative said many local roads have been deeply submerged, blocking traffic.

"As of 6 am on Monday, many streets, including Truong Chinh, Chu Van Thinh in Son La City, were about 30-40 cm under water," the committee said. "We've sent rescue teams to the flooded areas to check the drainage systems and ensure safety for local people."

In the neighbouring provinces of Lao Cai and Hoa Binh, large-scale landslides have also occurred in many areas, blocking traffic on many roads.
