Three children drowned and another was in critical condition after they went swimming in a pond in Vinh Phuc Province on August 22
According to a report from Vinh Yen City People's Committee, a group of secondary male students went bathing in a small pond at Nam Vinh Yen Urban Area. Four showed signs of drowning and were taken out of the pond by local residents. However, three died and one other was being treated at the Vinh Phuc Provincial General Hospital in critical condition.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the tragic incident.
Chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee, Le Duy Thanh earlier in May asked concerned agencies in Tam Dao and Binh Xuyen districts to intensify activities to prevent child drowning amid rising cases in the two localities.
The local department of education and training was also asked to raise awareness about child drowning among teachers, parents and students.
