Residents in Cam Thanh Ward said they discovered the worms early in the morning, most already dried and dead. The incident was concentrated around a grassy plot near the main gate, where worms clustered densely along the surrounding pavement.
Locals reported no rain in recent days, but the worms began surfacing on the night of November 13. Many curled together before dying, causing concern among nearby households, particularly women and children.
A similar episode occurred in late 2024, when a resident in the former Vung Tau City posted footage of thousands of worms crawling up a wall after heavy rain.
An agricultural expert said earthworms may surface due to low oxygen levels, temperature changes or soil treated with heat generating fertilisers such as poultry manure or phosphate. The expert added that the phenomenon is normal and not a cause for alarm.
