Storm Saola has weakened on the East Sea but still caused heavy rain for the Central Highlands and southern regions.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, early this morning, September 1, Storm Saola was moving in the north of the East Sea at a speed of 10 kilometres per hour.

Early on September 3, the eye of the storm would be in the southwest of Guangdong Province, China and then continue weakening.

Due to the impact of the storm, the Central Highlands and southern regions would face heavy rain on September 1-2 with a rainfall of 40-150mm.

People are recommended to watch out for the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and inundation in low-lying ones. Heavy rains in a short period of time can cause flooding in urban areas, with a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds during thunderstorms, the Vietnam News Agency said.
