According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the northern area, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An saw moderate to heavy rain, scattered thunderstorms and, in some places, very heavy downpours on August 5 .
Rainfall between 7 am and 8 pm exceeded 100mm in several areas, including Nga Son in Thanh Hoa at 142mm, Thuong Giap in Tuyen Quang at 139mm, Bach Ngoc 2 in Tuyen Quang at 137mm, Ngoc Son Management Board in Phu Tho at 130mm and Cam Nhan in Lao Cai at 119mm.
The weather agency forecast moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms across the northern region and the north-central region from the evening of August 5 to the morning of August 7, with common rainfall of 40-80mm and localised totals of more than 200mm.
During this spell, intense rainfall of more than 100mm within three hours may occur, increasing the risk of flooding and natural disasters in many areas.
From the afternoon of August 7, heavy rain in the North and the north-central region is forecast to gradually ease.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 7 pm on August 5, Storm Kujira's centre was over the south-eastern waters of the northern East Sea. Maximum winds near the eye reached force 8, equivalent to 62-74kph, with gusts up to force 10.
The storm was moving north-north-east at about 10kph.
By 7 am on August 6, it is forecast to shift east-north-east, moving at 10-15kph over the north-western area of Luzon island in the Philippines.
As it moves, the storm is expected to weaken into a tropical depression, with maximum winds of force 6 and gusts up to force 8.

By 7 pm on August 6, the tropical depression is expected to continue moving east at 10-15kph, heading into waters north-east of Luzon island before weakening into a low-pressure area, with winds falling below force 6.
Under the storm's influence, the south-eastern waters of the northern East Sea are expected to see stormy weather, with force 6-7 winds and gusts up to force 9. Areas near the storm's centre may experience force 8 winds and gusts up to force 10, with waves of 2-4 metres and very rough seas.
The weather agency said Storm Kujira was not expected to affect Vietnam's coastline or mainland. Vessels operating in hazardous waters face risks from thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds and high waves.
