Southern region to see high tides, widespread inundation

The southern region of Vietnam has been forecasted to experience a spell of high tides and widespread inundation on November 23-29.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, during this time, the highest water level in Vung Tau City in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau would be 4.25-4.35 metres.

The high tides front would flood low and riverside areas in many southern localities, including HCM City and Can Tho.

From now to February next year, the southern region would witness at least four more high tides on December 7-11, on December 21-29, on January 6-10, 2023, on January 21-26 and on February 19-24.

Meanwhile, localities from Ha Tinh to Binh Thuan, the Central Highlands and the southern region would face heavy rain until Tuesday evening. The rainfall from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa would be 100-170mm. Some areas would even reach up to 200mm. Meanwhile, the rainfall in Tay Nguyen and Ninh Thuan would be 50-80mm.

Warnings of flash floods and landslides along with strong winds have been issued affecting low-lying areas.

Between November 22 and January 23, the southern central, Central Highlands and southern regions would have less rain.
