Local authorities in the two northern mountainous provinces of Hoa Binh and Son La have had to evacuate over 100 households after cracks appeared on hills and mountains near their homes.

Large cracks appear on a hill near a residential area in Hoa Binh City on September 22.
Chairman of Son La's Nam Ty Commune People's Committee, Lo Van Hach, announced on Monday morning that 66 local households were being evacuated as a large crack of 60 metres in length was seen at a hill near their houses.
"We've helped these families build temporary tents to live while monitoring their areas," Hanh said.
In the neighbouring province of Hoa Binh, 47 households from landslide prone areas in Thong Nhat Ward were also evacuated on Sunday afternoon to public buildings to ensure safety during heavy rain.
Son La and Hoa Binh witnessed heavy rain from Saturday to Sunday with total rainfall reaching between 160 - 230 mm. Local mountains and hills, which had already seen cracks and landslides since the Storm Yagi, have currently posed higher threats to local residential areas.
