The Gia Lai Provincial Military Command said on August 5 that the remains were found during a search operation in Ia Boong Commune.

According to representatives of Team K52, the search was launched following information provided by military veterans, relatives of fallen soldiers and local residents, who believed the area near Sor Village contained an unmarked wartime burial site.
The investigation gained momentum after a villager recently discovered pieces of military canvas and traces of human remains while working in a field and reported the finding to the authorities.
Based on those leads, search teams began excavations near Sor Village on July 26. After nearly 10 days of searching, they recovered the remains of six soldiers.
The recovered remains have been transferred to the Ia Boong Commune Military Command, where they will be honoured while authorities carry out identification procedures and complete the required documentation.
Local officials said the latest discovery follows another recovery operation in 2025, when information provided by residents and relatives of fallen soldiers led to the recovery of 18 sets of remains about 30 metres from the newly discovered burial site.
One of those 18 soldiers was successfully identified, allowing the family to bring the remains home for burial.
