The scene of the accident

The Bat Xat District Party Committee Secretary, Nguyen Trung Trieu, said the accident happened at 4 am in Phin Chai Village in A Lu Commune when a large amount of earth and rock fell onto four households.

"It has been raining heavily in the area over the past two days due to Storm Yagi," the official said, adding that rocks and soil have continued to fall at the site, causing difficulties in the rescue work.

On Sunday afternoon, another landslide also hit four families in Lao Cai's Sapa Town, leaving six dead and nine injured.

Typhoon Yagi ravaged northern Vietnam on September 7, causing strong winds and heavy rain.

Although the storm has weakened into a tropical depression and moved into Laos, heavy rains still plague many mountainous provinces, including Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, and Hoa Binh.

Meteorologists have warned these localities about a high risk of flash floods and landslides in the coming days.
